Job Description

The dean of libraries is a dynamic, visionary leader who drives innovation and promotes expansion. The dean’s duties include enhancing the Ingram Library’s strengths, organizing engaging experiences for faculty and students, promoting research and scholarly accomplishments, and interacting with the university’s internal and external communities. To support the university, its teaching locations, its online and remote learning programs, and the UWG community, the dean creates and upholds an atmosphere of strategic and data-driven innovation and acquires suitable and sufficient resources. To foster change and an organizational culture based on cooperation, communication, respect, and service, this role requires an adaptable leader.

Responsibilities

  • Provide creative, collaborative and transparent leadership consistent with the mission of the university
  • Create a sense of belonging, provide leadership in resources management and drive measurable outcomes
  • Lead strategic, long-term, and day-to-day planning, establishing goals, policies, and procedures for the library including personnel, accreditation and continuous improvement
  • Plan and efficiently manage library resources to meet the libraries and campuses¿ current and future needs, with relevance to space, access and resources selection
  • Advocate for and implement modern technology, communication strategies, instructional methods and outreach activities
  • Ensure appropriate and adequate resources procurement, management and delivery
  • Supervise and develop innovative programming, and expand research and scholarship that bolster faculty¿s achievement and student engagement
  • Direct the development and execution of comprehensive library services to promote faculty excellence and student success
  • Manage personnel activities, including recruitment, team-building, promotion and tenure, and professional development for librarians and staff
  • Work in a collegial and collaborative manner with all university members
  • Maintain collaborative partnerships both internally and externally to the university
  • Collaborate with University Advancement in innovative fundraising initiatives to enhance library resources
  • Participate in national, regional, and/or state library organizations, as appropriate and approved
  • Engage in and support community outreach initiatives and perform all other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in Library Science
  • A progressive record of academic leadership with increasing responsibilities and a distinguished record of professional accomplishments, teaching, and scholarly achievement sufficient to qualify for appointment at the rank of associate or full professor 
  • Successful administrative experience in supervision of tenure-track and tenured faculty
  • Demonstrated experience with appropriate and adequate library resources acquisition, maintenance and management, in support of university programs and initiatives
  • Experience in working with external partners

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree from a regionally-accredited institution in addition to a Masters degree in Library Science
  • Successful history of strategic planning, resource stewardship, and assessment
  • Experience with technology integration in education and online learning
  • Record of success in generating grant and contract funding
  • Demonstrated commitment of supporting positive work environment and a culture of transparency and inclusivity
  • Successfully serving traditional and nontraditional students
